CID ordered to submit progress report

Colombo Fort Acting Magistrate Shalini Perera yesterday ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to submit a progress report on the investigations carried out against Attorney-at-Law Hejaaz Hizbullah on the next calling date.

Attorney-at-Law Hizbullah is being detained and interrogated by the Criminal Investigations Department in connection with having allegedly aided and abetted suicide bomber Mohammad Ibrahim Insaf Ahmed, who set off the bomb at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel during last year’s Easter Sunday attacks.

The CID informed the court that they expect to conclude the investigation regarding Hizbullah within few days and send abstracts of the investigation to the Attorney-General to seek further instructions with regard to the matter.

Investigations have revealed that a group of individuals had used suicide bomber Mohommad Ibrahim Insaf Ahmed’s residence for several activities. CID officials further stated that five individuals have been arrested with regard to it, and that they were detained and interrogated under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Hejaaz Hizbullah was represented by President’s Counsel Farman Cassim, Counsel Hafeel Farisz, and few others, respectively. The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for September 23.
