The Aloe Vera Cultivation Home Garden Project was launched at the Auditorium of the Irakkamam Divisional Secretariat on Monday under the patronage of Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath.

Over 1,000 poor villagers from seven Divisional Secretariats have been selected for the project as model farmers. Twenty farmers from each Divisional Secretariat participated in the launching ceremony.

The cultivation of Aloe Vera will be carried out with the supervision of the Local Government bodies under either private owned companies or semi-Government companies.

Project Director Azath Mohamed Aliyar said that the project will be funded as loans to the participants. The Government will provide training and monitoring services.

Governor Anuradha Yahampath and the District Secretary D.M.L. Bandaranayake highlighted the importance of the project and appealed all to actively participate in the project.

They said that an Aloe Vera Factory will be set up so that farmers will never find it difficult to market their products.

Governor Anuradha Yahampath and the guests distributed the Aloe Vera saplings to the selected villagers.

The Governor was presented with a memento by Project Director Azath Mohamed Aliar. Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Agrarian Services, Samaurdhi, Divisional Secretariats and the Local Government Department were present.
