Another COVID-19 death, toll rises to 13

A patient who was admitted to the quarantine ward of the Chilaw District General Hospital for treatment for respiratory ailments after returning to Sri Lanka from Dubai has died of COVID-19, hospital Director Dr. Kapila Mallawarachchi confirmed.

The deceased has been identified as W.E. Perera, a 60-year-old  and a resident of Nugegoda. He had been receiving treatment at the special quarantine unit for the treatment of Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients.

The deceased had gone to work in Dubai and returned to Sri Lanka on September 2. He was admitted to the Chilaw District General Hospital on September 9 for a respiratory ailment.

The doctor said that the patient had undergone several tests but none of it proved that he had contracted COVID-19.

The patient died yesterday morning (14th) and the Colombo Medical Examinations Unit had sent a medical report stating that he had been identified as a COVID-19 positive patient during a third test.
