Pharmacist remanded for selling addictive painkillers

An individual who worked at a pharmacy in the Hulftsdorp area in Colombo has been remanded by the Wattala Magistrate for possessing a stock of addictive painkillers, recently. Police found 34 packets containing 1,040 painkillers in the suspect's possession.

The raid was conducted by the Crime Prevention Division of the Wattala Police. The suspect was arrested during a raid carried out in Ethmanawatte area in Wattala.

The pharmacist is said to have brought the drug in bulk at a controlled price of Rs.825 and sold a packet of 30 pills to drug addicts at Rs.1,500 each, police said.

They added that he had gone on a motorcycle and requested for the painkillers by phone and had distributed them to buyers in the Mabola area in Wattala who had placed orders for him.
