Navy divers survey stricken oil tanker MT New Diamond

Navy divers conducted a combined diving operation together with the Indian Navy and Coast Guard on Sunday (13) to scan the entire underwater profile of the ill stricken oil tanker MT New Diamond.

Lankan Navy divers repaired a leak on the sea water inlet of the oil tanker last Friday as the oil sludge from the engine room had been leaking from this inlet. Accordingly, the scanning of the ship from stem to stern was conducted by the Indian and Sri Lankan divers to ensure that there was no leak or possibility of any oil spill. The Navy Spokesman told the Daily News that the oil storage tanks are intact and that the divers had not detected any damage to these storage tanks and there was no possibility of an oil leak from them.
