The two storey B.R. Disnayake building of the Galle Southlands College has severely dilapidated. The school authorities, therefore, shifted the classes in the building to another at the school recently.

Since last Friday, Grades X and VII are held at another building in evenings from 12.03 pm. Grades VIII and IX are held at 12.30 pm to suit the new time table.

Fourteen classes of Grades X and VII of 600 children study in them. Owing to the new class time, the parents undergo severe hardships, they said.

The staircase to the second floor of the dilapidated building is in the verge of collapse. The Galle District Engineering (Building) Department has prepared an estimation to replace the staircase.

Southern Province Education Director Nimal Disnayake said that the site had been inspected by the Galle Zonal Director of Education and the Education Ministry had been informed about the issue and estimates for the renovation had been completed.

The parents, meanwhile, urge the authorities to repair it soon.
