The Mahaweli settlers will be granted freehold deeds in this year, Mahaweli Zone Canals and Settlement, Infrastructure Development State Minister Siripala Gamalath said.

The State Minister said that the aim of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is to resolve the prolonged Mahaweli settlers land disputes and create a better tomorrow for them without delay.

The Minister was participating in a mobile service to find solutions to the land disputes of the settlers in the Walawa Special Zone of the Mahaweli Authority at the Angunakolapelassa Town Hall recently.

Minister Gamlath said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will keep every family happy. The Minister said that the political commitment of the public sector is of paramount importance for the President and the Premier to uplift the living standards of the people.

“Many Mahaweli settlers have not received any documents to claim a plot of freehold land so far. Therefore, many social disputes have emerged in the community. We want to see them living as a recognised community. People without a bloc of land have been denied of many ordinary privileges today. Therefore, plans are afoot to resolve the land disputes of the settlers and provide them with freehold land deeds. This would be implemented under the guidance of Irrigation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa. Deeds to the needy will be given before the end of this year,” State Minister Siripala Gamlath said.

Hambantota District MP Ajith Rajapaksa, Irrigation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa, State Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa, Engineer, W.B.
