Educational system should be changed – Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris

Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said that a vast gap exists between the school-university education and job opportunities in the country and highlighted the dire necessarily of having a meaningful change in the entire system very soon.

He was addressing students-parents meeting of the Aluthgama National School yesterday organized by the school to felicitate students and educational institutes.

The Education Minister said that what students learn at schools do not help them resolve their issues . He said that the entire education system should be changed following discussions with educationists, university lecturers, teachers, students, parents and civil societies .

The Minister said that many students rote what they learn at schools and they have no creative ability or intellectual power.

Prof. Peiris said that the school syllabuses should be changed according to the demand in the job market and the private and business sector needs.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has given priority to human resource development and it is the basic foundation of the development of a country.

He said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed four State Ministers for the Education.

The State Minister said that there is no other ministry under the four State ministers. He said that it clearly shows the vast work load and the number of duties and responsibilities of the Education Ministry.

“The educational resources should be distributed among students equally so that no parents send their children to only national schools or leading colleges,” he said.

“President Gotabaya Rajapaksa decided to set up three national schools in each DS division because the country has 125 DS Divisions sans any National School.

State Minister Piyal Nishantha De Silva said that he was happy starting his political life from the Beruwala Pradesiya Sabha and have an opportunity to help Aluthgama MV, his Alma Mater.
