Measures to increase renewable energy contribution

State Minister of Solar Power, Wind and Hydro Generation Project Development Duminda Dissanayake emphasized that all necessary steps will be taken to increase the renewable energy contribution of the National Grid to 80% by 2030.

This was stated by the Minister during a meeting with the 10 member Committee of Experts appointed to look into the steps to be taken to achieve the Renewable Energy Development Goals by 2030.

Secretary to the Ministry of Power and Energy Wasantha Perera, Secretary to State Hemantha Samarakoon and several senior Ministry officials were present on this occasion.

The Committee members said that since renewable sources are not always uniform and therefore special attention should be taken in this regard.

They also told the Minister that special attention should be paid to whether the existing renewable sources in Sri Lanka are sufficient to meet the growing demand for electricity.

Minister Duminda Dissanayake pointed out that the current direction of the Power Sector in Sri Lanka is towards renewable resources and that in order to achieve the future development goals, we need to look at strategies that can encourage renewable energy entrepreneurs as well as investors in the public sector.
