Jathika Nidahas Peramuna leader and Minister of Industries Wimal Weerawansa has intervened to provide a new house in the Kaduwela electorate to family members of Geethika Shyamali who died due to an earth mound collapse at Kotelawala, Kaduwela recently.
Geethika Shyamali was tragically killed when an earth mound collapsed on her rented house.
The earth mound had fallen on the house when a wall surrounding an adjoining property being developed by a construction company collapsed.
As a result of a discussion held by Minister Wimal Weerawansa with the heads of the construction company, they had agreed to give the family land in the Kaduwela electorate and build a new house within six months, the Minister’s Media Unit in a communiqué said.
In addition to providing a new home, the company has also agreed to contribute to the funeral arrangements and almsgiving and to provide the family with a home on a rental basis until the new home is built.
The agreement in this regard was handed over to the mother of the deceased by Kaduwela Mayor Buddhika Jayawilal on Wednesday.
