Detection of illegal firearms:

Cash rewards for Police informants increased

The Police have increased the amounts paid as rewards to Police officers and private informants assisting in operations to arrest suspects with illegal firearms.

“Accordingly, Police officers and private informants will be rewarded with Rs.250,000 each for providing information which leads to the detection of a T-56 firearm and arrest of a suspect. If a T-56 firearm is found without a suspect, a Police officer will be paid Rs.200,000 and a private informant Rs.250,000,”Police said.

In addition, the reward money for repeater guns, ammunition pistols, revolvers, firearms and hand grenades has been increased.

Police continue to search for suspects with illegal firearms and ammunition. However, some of the crimes reported in the past indicate that illegal firearms and grenades are still circulating.

Therefore, under these circumstances, such operations will be further expanded to establish the rule of law and to create a peaceful environment in which the public can live without fear of crime.

Accordingly, the IGP has decided to increase the value of the prize money already paid to them by the Police Gift Fund to encourage Police officers who arrest suspects with illegal weapons.
