BASL appoints Special Committee to study 20A

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has appointed a Special Committee to study and submit views on the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution.

Issuing a press release, BASL Secretary Rajeev Amarasuriya stated that BASL appointed a Special Committee comprising Senior Members of the BASL to study the Bill and submit their views to be taken up by the Executive Committee and the Bar Council for further action.

“The Committee will also address the many areas in the Constitution which require consideration on the need for further amendment in order to address law’s delays and other related matters affecting the administration of Justice,” the BASL Secretary said

The Committee will include, among others, Nihal Jayamanne PC (Chairman), Ikram Mohamed PC, M.M. Zuhair PC, L.M.K. Arulanandam PC, Nihal Jayawardena PC, Nalin Ladduwahetty PC, Maithri Wickramasinghe PC, Anura Meddegoda PC, Mohan Weerakoon PC, S.T. Jayanaga PC, Priyal Wijayaweera PC, Maurapada Gunawansha PC, Attorney-at-law Ravi Algama and Shantha Jayawardena as the Convenor.
