Island senior journalist Zacki Jabbar found dead

Senior journalist of The Island newspaper Zacki Jabbar was found dead in his house yesterday. Jabbar had been missing for several days and his body was found in his house yesterday. He worked as a senior journalist  at The Island newspaper and his body was found in his house by a close relative.

According to the police media division, an emergency call had been received by the police hotline 119 around 06.45 pm on Wednesday (9).

Thalangama Police had been dispatched to 1084/J, Peiris Mawatha, Kumarage Watte, Thalangama as they were notified that a body of a deceased person was found in that house.

The police confirmed that the deceased was 60-year-old journalist Zacki Jabbar. The body was in a decomposed state and the police suspect that he would have died several days prior to being discovered.

Jabbar had not reported to work for around a week and his office had notified his brother about his absence. Accordingly, Jabbar’s brother had visited his residence on Wednesday evening (09) and having discovered him dead inside the house, he had notified the police. He had died inside a room in his house and the brother had found his body on the floor.

Jabbar is said to have lived in his house alone.

His brother had also lodged a complaint at the Thalangama Police last morning (10) regarding this incident.Meanwhile, the issue was raised in Parliament yesterday. SJB Kurunegala District MP Nalin Bandara suggesting that the death of Jabbar was suspicious.
