State media institutions to get State ads, publicity programs

The Cabinet approved a proposal by the Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella to make it compulsory to advertise publicity programmes to the value of 25 per cent of the advertising and publicity budget of Government and semi- Government institutions through State media institutions.

He was speaking at the Cabinet Media Briefing yesterday at the Government Information Department.

The Minister said that as a result of the decision, State media institutions such as the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Independent Television Network, and the Associated Newspapers Company Limited would function without any burden to the national budget.
