Colombo Port deserves high position in global maritime rankings – State Minister

The Colombo Port has a huge potential to be listed in higher rankings in global maritime ratings, warehouse facilities, container yards, supply facilities and boats and shipping, Industry Development State Minister Jayantha Samaraweera said.

He was visiting the port recently and inspected its East Container Terminal (ECT), the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) and the Pilot Station recently.

Sate Minister Samaraweera said that the port facilities including that of the Colombo Port will be developed very soon. The State Minister hed a meeting with the division heads of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and said that he was committed to fulfil the duties assigned to his Ministry.

“As per the ‘Vision for Prosperity’ of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, we will develop infrastructures of the port sector. I am confident that the development of facilities at the Colombo Port will generate huge revenue,” he said.

He said that he was confident of the potential of the Port of Colombo to take its position towards higher rankings in global maritime ratings. He added that having an opportunity to work with the highly experienced SLPA staffs and employees is a plus mark. State Ministry Secretary D.D. Marathaarachchi and Ministry officials were present.
