Water for Hambantota from Ginganga, Nilwalaganga

The Ginganga and Nilwalaganga will be diverted to Hambantota under a plan mooted by Irrigation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa to obtain water to the Hambantota District.

The engineers in the project said that 2,000,000 acre feet of water from the Ginganga and 1,300000 acre feet of water from the Nilwalaganga flow into the sea without being used for any purpose.

They said that water of these rivers would be diverted to Chandrikawewa in Ebilipitiya and from there to Hambantota reservoirs. The project will cost Rs.76 billion, they said.
