The woman inmate, who escaped through the roof of the Kalutara prison on Tuesday (8), was arrested by the prison officials, Kalautara Prison sources said.
The woman took 3 grams of heroin per day. She escaped because of her high craving for heroin, The prison sources said.
Her illegitimate husband is in the same prison on charges of throwing a banned substance into the prison, the sources said.
She was a resident of Alubomulla, Panadura and was charged for having heroin, the sources said.
After scalding the wall, she fled in a trishaw and the prison officers pursuing it had arrested her.
Disciplinary actions will be taken against the prison officers on duty at the time of her escape, the Prison Headquarters said.
