Egg-cellent beauty benefits!

Protein-packed eggs are among the super foods for good health. Not only are eggs beneficial for the body, they also can provide a good dose of nourishment to the skin and hair and make them healthier. Rich in Lutin, eggs can provide hydration and elasticity to the skin while the high protein content can help in repairing tissues and firming skin. The proteins in eggs can be used in softening the hair, and also to give it strength and shine.

Nutritional ingredients

One egg has only 75 calories but 7 grams of high-quality protein, 5 grams of fat, and 1.6 grams of saturated fat, along with iron, vitamins, minerals, and carotenoids. The egg is a powerhouse of disease-fighting nutrients like lutein and zeaxanthin.

Eggs for maintaining beauty

The virtues of eating eggs for diet benefits have long been expounded and for good reason! But these fabulous ingredients pack in quite a punch when it comes to beauty benefits of eggs for hair! Eggs are versatile ingredients, which can be used by themselves, or in conjunction with other ingredients to deliver optimum benefits when consumed, or applied topically on hair or skin.

Beauty benefits

Eggs are amazingly good for your skin – and your hair. Both the yolk and the whites are packed with nutrients. Egg whites contain albumin, a simple protein which helps to minimize pores + clear blackheads, making them especially great for oily skin. Conversely, the yolk is great for dry skin as it is packed with proteins and fatty acids and is great for dry skin and hair.

The benefits of eggs are pretty amazing, and the yolk and the white of eggs have distinctly different benefits. Egg whites are great for oily skin and for tightening up sagging skin. Same goes for an oily scalp. The yolk, conversely, is amazing for hydration and moisture.

Health benefits

Eggs are a primary source of Vitamin B2, which helps convert the foods you eat into energy. The proteins in eggs act as a constant source of energy, thus by increasing your consumption, you make the process more productive, thereby giving you more energy. That is why eggs are an ideal choice of food before a workout or as breakfast to get you through the day.

Just as our physical strength decreases with age, our eyes also deteriorate in their performance. A diet rich in vitamins and minerals protects vision for the long run. Two of the most important nutrients for eye health are- Lutein and Zeaxanthin, they are powerful antioxidants that tend to build up the retina of the eye. Egg yolks actually contain large amounts of both these antioxidants. Eggs also have plentiful Vitamin A, as deficiency of Vitamin A is the most common cause of blindness in the world.

Selecting eggs as a part of a beauty treatment

Make sure the eggs are fresh when you select eggs for your beauty treatment.

Beauty treatments which include eggs

Eggs are extremely versatile and can be used for various treatments, ranging from hair, skin and body treatments. Eggs have many health benefits as well when included into your diet as well.

Side effects

Eggs are a source of saturated fat and too much saturated fat has been shown to raise total cholesterol and LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

Egg home remedies

Skin treatments

  • To help oily skin

Take one teaspoon of egg white and add big squeeze of lemon juice. Mix together, and apply it to your whole face or just where you have large pores. The fresh lemon juice acts as a mild acid and is a dream combined with the egg white. Wait 15 minutes, rinse with warm water, and pat dry!

  • To tighten saggy skin
  • love an egg white mask. Apply a thin layer of pure egg whites to the skin (concentrate on any areas where you see sagging – cheeks, jaw line, etc). Be careful as you apply the mask. Allow to dry (usually 20 minutes), rinse off with cool water, and you’ve got yourself an instant mini face lift! (You can do this on your under eye bags as well, just be careful not to get it in your eye!)
  • For dry skin

Try making a hydrating mask. Take one egg yolk and mix together with one tbsp coconut oil or honey. Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse with warm water and apply your favorite moisturizer.

Hair treatments

  • For an oily scalp

You can use the same mixture to make a hair mask for the oily skin on your scalp (adjust the proportions as you’ll need more – I’d recommend 2 to 3 large egg whites and 1 tbsp lemon juice). Mix together and apply the entire mixture to your scalp before showering, leave on for 5 to 10 minutes and then wash your hair with warm water as usual! This is so good for excess oil. Applying egg whites to the scalp can also stimulate hair growth

  • For dry hair

Mix a whole egg with an egg yolk and a tablespoon of coconut oil (I like to melt the coconut oil first – it’s a nicer consistency. You can also use olive oil. Mix together and apply the whole mixture to the middle part of the hair down through the ends (basically everywhere below the ears), leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes, and wash your hair as you normally would.

Body treatments

  •  For cellulite/firming

This requires patience but you can apply an egg white mask to your thighs/legs/anywhere you want to firm up a little bit. Let it dry completely and then shower!

  •  Make a body hydrating body scrub

This one is super simple. Mix equal parts egg yolks with granulated sugar and scrub your whole body! I actually like doing this on dry skin (pre-shower!) Scrub all over for a good ten minutes and then shower.
