Sri Lanka receives two awards from WHO

Sri Lanka received two special awards from the World Health Organization (WHO) today for successful elimination of rubella and mother to child transmission of HIV.

The awards were received by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi at the WHO Office in Colombo while joining in the 73rd WHO Regional Committee for the South East Asian Region via the video conferencing technology.

Health Ministry Secretary Dr Sanjeewa Munasinghe, acting Health Services Director General Dr S Sridharan and WHO Sri Lanka Representative Dr. Razia Pendse also participated.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, posting on his Twitter account, congratulated Sri Lanka for eliminating rubella and mother to child transmission of HIV and congenital syphilis.
