Port facilities to be expanded

A special project will be implemented to expand the facilities of the Colombo Port and other ports in Sri Lanka, said State Minister of Warehouse Facilities, Container Yards, Port Supply Facilities and Boats and Shipping Industry Development Jayantha Samaraweera.

The State Minister also added that the Colombo Port is capable of achieving a higher position in the global rankings.

Samaraweera was speaking during his first visit to the Colombo Port on assuming duties as the State Minister of Warehouse Facilities, Container Yards, Port Supply Facilities and Boats and Shipping Industry Development.

Moreover he said that according to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s ‘Vistas of Prosperity’ National Policy Framework, special attention will be paid to develop infrastructure facilities at ports.

The State Minister said that the Colombo Port is capable of bringing more revenue for the country. Therefore, priority must be given to the progress of the Colombo Port.

He also said that Sri Lanka is geographically placed in a strategic location and the country should make the most out of this situation.
