Drinking water issues to be solved by 2025: Nishantha

Rural and Regional Drinking Water Development State Minister Sanath Nishantha said that at present, only 51% of the country has proper drinking water facilities. He was speaking at a meeting of National Water Supply and Drainage Broad (NWSDB) officials held at the Wayamba Provincial Council Lichchavi Hall. The state minister said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has entrusted him with providing adequate drinking water to nearly half of the population before the end of 2025.

“President Rajapaksa has given me a difficult task, but I will do my best to achieve what he expects from me. But for this, I also need the support of the officials and the public as well,” State Minister Nishantha said.

“Today, 7% of the country’s population is facing severe drinking water problems,” he said, adding that he would see this issue resolved in five years.

“I request all officials to fulfill their duties and provide an effective service to the public,” the state minister said.
