Case against former SriLankan CEO to be taken up in December

The case filed against former Sri Lankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena and his wife Priyanka Niyomali Wijenayaka, was postponed till December 2 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake yesterday.

The two suspects have been accused of obtaining a commission of US$ 2 million and laundering money to a bank account maintained overseas, when negotiating an agreement to purchase 10 Airbus aircraft for Sri Lankan Airlines.

When the case was taken up, the Criminal Investigations Department informed the Magistrate that they are conducting further investigations with regard to the Airbus agreement.

The Magistrate observed that the Deputy Solicitor General who had appeared on behalf of the CID had earlier urged to issue a warrant against a person. The Magistrate further pointed out that the request was not made properly by the CID.
