Eluwankulam deforestation suspects arrested

The Wanathawilluwa Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the clearing of 100 acres of government-owned land belonging to the Cement Company and burning down the huge forest floor with the help of an mobile saw, Wanathawilluwa Police said.

Cement Corporation Chairman Attorney-at-Law Gamini Ekanayake lodged a complaint with the Wanathawilluwa Police the day after the incident was reported in the media.

Another four more suspects were identified. Five suspects arrested earlier in connection with the incident were remanded till September 15 after being produced before the Puttalam Magistrate's Court.

The three suspects were due to be produced before the Puttalam Magistrate's Court.
