Anverally & Sons, one of the largest tea exporters in Sri Lanka, gave physical expression to the phrase ‘tea and sympathy’ when it donated a consignment of tea to the people of Beirut following the explosion that killed more than 220 people in the Lebanese capital.

The consignment was handed over to the Sri Lanka Tea Board (SLTB) in response to a request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Anverally and Sons (Pvt) Ltd, is one of the top ten exporters to Lebanon, a market it has served for more than a decade, dealing with long established partners in that country.

“The Beirut explosion was devastating to the people of Lebanon and deeply shocking to the world. As a company that has had a long relationship with the country, Anverally Teas responded immediately when we learnt that the Foreign Ministry was coordinating Sri Lankan relief assistance,” said Mohamed Anverally, Chairman of Anverally & Sons. “We grieve the loss of life in Beirut and assure the people of Lebanon that our thoughts are with them.” Jayampathy Molligoda, Chairman, Sri Lanka Tea Board said: “We commend Anverally Teas for its unhesitating and speedy response. These are difficult times for all businesses and we admire Anverally Teas for its generosity and commitment.”

A Company that has made ‘giving back’ a key element of its social responsibility, Anverally & Sons has supported many worthy causes. Established in 1890 by the great grandfather of the present Chairman, Anverally & Sons employs more than 1,000 people and exports Ceylon Tea to over 90 countries.
