Lawyers to call for SC proceedings live on television

A group of lawyers led by Attorney Aruna Laksiri in a letter to the President are urging to provide facilities to telecast Supreme Court proceedings on live television. In a letter addressed to the President, Attorney Aruna Laksiri highlighted the importance of airing Supreme Court

proceedings related to the Constitutional amendments and the interpretation of the Constitution.

Laksiri stated that in terms of Article 106 of the Constitution, sittings of every Court should be held in public and all persons shall be entitled to attend such sittings. He is of the view that modern technology should be utilised enabling the public to interact with court proceedings.

Accordingly, Laksiri is to request the President to provide facilities for the live telecast of Supreme Court proceedings where the sovereignty of the people is exercised.

This letter had so far received more than 300 signatures from attorneys.
