Analyst told to report on CCTV footage

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday ordered the Government Analyst to submit a report pertaining to the CCTV footage between 2.00 and 6.00p.m on November 25, where the alleged abduction of Swiss Embassy employee Garnier Banister Francis is said to have taken place.

When the matter was taken up, the Criminal Investigation Department informed the Magistrate that 607 hours of CCTV camera footage regarding this case has been referred to Government Analyst.

The CID further stated that Government Analyst had informed the CID that it would take a long time to analyse and submit a report in relation to the CCTV footage.

Accordingly, the Magistrate issued an order directing the Government Analyst to submit a report pertaining to the CCTV footage time between 2.00 and 6.00 p.m on November 25, where the alleged abduction was said to have took place. The Chief Magistrate further ordered the CID to submit a report regarding the progress of the investigation into the incident on November 5. Swiss Embassy employee Garnier Banister Francis is claiming that she was kidnapped and threatened by a group of unidentified persons. She is out on bail now.
