Baby elephant being rescued
Polonnaruwa Wildlife Officers on Saturday saved an elephant calf that was stuck in mud in Divulana marsh (villuwa) of the Flood Plains National Park. Wildlife Assistant Director (Polonnaruwa) W. M. K. S. Chandraratne said the elephant calf was about two and half years old.
He said the calf could have come to the marsh to drink water with other elephants in the herd. A farmer who saw the elephant calf had informed the Wildlife authorities. The animal was saved with great effort by the wildlife officers.
