Saudi Arabia sends Labour Attache here

Saudi Arabia has picked Sri Lanka as one of the six countries to send a Labour Attache to its mission in Colombo, the Human Resources Department of the Saudi Ministry of Labour Affairs announced in Riyadh on Saturday.

Under the new development, Saudi Arabia will send labour attaches to its diplomatic missions in six countries to promote recruitment of foreign employment and look after the employer-employee interests in Saudi Arabia.

The countries selected by Saudi Arabia under this programme include Egypt, India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.

According to an official in Riyadh, the purpose is to facilitate recruitment of workers for the citizens, to examine the workers and ensure their suitability for the Saudi labour market, and educate the workers on the residency and labour regulations of the Kingdom.

Muhammad Bin Obaidullah Al-Mutairi, is the first such officer to be posted from Saudi Arabia to the Republic Philippines. Al-Mutairi has already started his work as the first labor attaché to the country.

The Kingdom’s Ambassador to the Philippines Dr. Abdullah Al-Bussairy received him at the embassy headquarters in the capital, Manila, during the opening of the Kingdom's first labour attaché office abroad.

During the ensuing meeting, they reviewed the functions of the labour attaché and the tasks related to what would help strengthen cooperation.
