CCD’s heroin smuggling PC arrested in Dhanushkodi

The Constable attached to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), wanted in connection with the 23kg of heroin seized in Sapugaskanda last week, was arrested in Dhanushkodi, on Saturday.

The Asian News International (ANI) reported on Saturday night that the arrest was made by the Coastal Security wing police when the suspect tried to illegally enter Tamil Nadu by boat.

The ANI said the suspect (30) was taken to the Dhanushkodi police station for interrogation.

The Indian police had been conducting a search operation on the smuggling of drugs, gold and other items between Sri Lanka and India across the international maritime border on information received by the Coast Guard officers in Rameswaram.

The Meegahawatta Police recovered a haul of heroin worth over Rs.230 million in a carpenter’s shed in Samadhi Mawatha in Sapugaskanda on September 2. It has been found during the investigation that the Police Constable had hidden the stock of heroin in his brother’s carpentry shed and had fled the area.
