‘Ethinic-based political parties have done more harm than good’

Ethnic-based political parties should be banned as they only create division among communities, Parliamentarian Milan Jayatilake said.

Speaking at a public event at Al Mubarak Muslim National Schoolin Malwana, recently, the Gampaha District Parliamentarian said that ethnic-based political parties have brought much harm to the country over the years.

He said the present government under President Gotabaya Rajapaksa treats all communities equally without any differences.

In this backdrop it was of the utmost importance for all communities to work as one and support the government to drive the country forward in these challenging times, he added.

Jayatilake was speaking at a ceremony held to donate stationery to the Al Mubarak Muslim National School by Malwana People’s Forum headed by M.M.A. Ismail. The People’s Forum provided 400 plastic chairs to the auditorium of the school and uniforms to 110 students of the Malwana Ahadiyya Islami Religious Education School.

Malwana People’s Forum also opened its community development centre in Malwana on the same day. Malwana People’s Forum President M.M.A. Ismail said education should play a pivotal role in the country’s future development, and that his organisation was ever ready to assist in whatever way possible.

“Children are the greatest resource to this country. Therefore, it is our responsibility to protect them. For that, children should be given proper education. That is why we have set up a forum like this to promote education in the area,” he said.
