State Minister discusses pharmaceutical issues with GMOA

Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana held a discussion with Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) officials, recently, a Ministry spokesman said.

According to the spokesman, the state minister and GMOA officials discussed about the issues in the health sector, as well as drug production and regulation.

The GMOA officials made a few requests during the discussion. They pointed out the importance of regulating various chemical-based substances used in a large number of beauty salons mushroomed all over the country and also pointed out the need to stop the long delay occurred during registering drugs, he added.

The officials also highlighted the need for modern, fully-fledged laboratories to test drugs produced by the state and private sectors, the spokesman said.

State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana positively responded to all three requests presented by the GMOA officials.

He also requested the GMOA to intervene in order to solve a number of drug shortage cases reported from various state hospitals in the country.

GMOA President Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya and GMOA Secretary Dr. Senal Fernando also participated in the event.
