The sixth year coloursman, all rounder, captain of the first eleven cricket team, left hand bat, left arm medium pace bowler who opens the attack, safe fielder, Premier tournament player and Sri Lanka under 19 cricketer Balchandra Arachchige Don Ashan Dilhara bid adieu to his Alma Mater in grand style after bringing honour and glory to his Alma Mater St. John’s College, Panadura. Also he joined the select band of Panadura Johnians to pass the magical one thousand runs in the 2019/20 inter school cricket season. He became the second Johnian to achieve this rare feat after Jude Asoka and then third one thousand run maker was Reshan Malith Fernando.

Ashan commenced his schooling at Junior School, Hirana, Panadura joined St. John’s College, Panadura for the Grade Six Class. From his smaller days his forte was cricket and he played cricket with his neighbouring friends. He attended under 13 cricket practices under former Cambrian cricketer Eranga Gunaratne and got selected for the team and playing for three successive years he scored 410 runs and claimed 48 wickets and as an under 15 player playing for three consecutive years he collected 615 runs and captured 61 scalps and in the under 17 he scored 490 runs in two years and bagged 39 wickets. He was selected for the first eleven cricket team when he was under 13 and he was the Baby of the Side and scored 4426 runs including 274 wickets through out his school cricket career in all four formats and it may be a all time record for his College and he has led the school in all these four categories.

His best year was 2019/20 cricket season and he amassed 1101 runs including five centuries and two fifties and has topped the averages with 57.7. During his cricket career he got the opportunity to play in three big matches and two limited over matches and in 2017/18 limited over match against their arch rivals Royal College, Panadura he scored 153 runs which is a record for both schools and won the Man of the Match Award. He missed several matches due to his commitments in the under 15 and 19 Sri Lankan Cricket Tournaments and he was in these squads. He was in the 30 member squad for under 15 Malaysian tour and he played against the visiting England under 19 schools team in two matches and earned the Man of the Match Award once. He was a member of the Bangladesh Tour of Sri Lanka and he was in the 15 member squad.
