Discarded state vehicles to be repaired for use

Cabinet approval has been granted to use discarded vehicles in running condition at the government institutions after renovating them, Co-cabinet Spokesman Plantation Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said.

He was speaking at the Cabinet media briefing at the Government Information Department yesterday.

Minister Pathirana said that a considerable number of vehicles of Government institutions have not been used. Therefore, the number of vehicles that can be used after renovating them has been calculated and identified as 4,116 while the number of vehicles that can be discarded amounts to 5,588.

The Cabinet, therefore, approved the proposal by the Finance Minister to allocate provisions from the Department of National Budget to repair the vehicles for transferring the vehicles so repaired through the Comptroller General's office under the Finance Ministry to the state institutions and to discard the irreparable vehicles subject to the formal methodology.
