Obtaining allocations from General Treasury for Recurrent Expenditure of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) and Independent Television Network (ITN)

With the Covid-19 outbreak, the income of SLRC, SLBC and ITN has been decreasing, and they have been unable to cover the salaries and essential expenses of the institutions.

Therefore, the Cabinet approved the proposal by the Mass Media and lnformation Minister to obtain the provisions for essential recurrent expenditure of those institutions from the General Treasury for four months from September to December 2020.

It was also decided that strategic plans should be prepared to increase the income of these institutions and those plans should be implemented expeditiously with the concurrence of the Treasury.

Allocating lands from regional industrial zones to set up industries.

The Industries Ministry implements the 'Regional Industrial Zones Development Programme' to promote the industries at regional level.

The Cabinet, therefore, approved the proposal by the Industries Minister to allocate lands on tenancy from the industrial zones of Ratmalana, Kalutara, Millewa, Nalanda, Ulapone, Makandura, Uva Paranagama and Batticaloa for nine investors for 35 years to inaugurate industries subject to the recommendations by the relevant regional industrial services committees.

National policy on natural gases

A decision was made on February 12, 2020 at the Cabinet meeting to appoint a committee comprising intellects to inspect and table the required amendments to the draft national policy on the natural gases in Sri Lanka.

The amended 'national policy on natural gases in Sri Lanka' prepared by a committee of 17 intellects as members appointed for the purpose was submitted by the Energy Ministry to which the Cabinet decided to grant policy approval.

Procurement/purchase of coal required under fugitive purchases for coal power plant in Puttlam.

The proposal by the Power Minister to obtain the covering approval for awarding the procurement of 300,000 metric tonnes of coal under fugitive purchases for the coal power plant in Puttlam to M/s Swiss Singapore Overseas Enterprises (Pvt.) Limited was approved by the Cabinet for an amount of USD I6.18 million subject to the recommendation of the special standing procurement committee appointed by the Cabinet.

Procurement, construction and operation of three oil storing tanks in Kolonnawa oil storing complex.

The Cabinet approved the proposal by the Energy Minister to award the contract of procurement, construction and operation of three oil storing tanks in the Kolonnawa oil storing complex to the Indo-East Engineering and Construction (Lanka) (Pvt.) Limited for Rs. 942.47 million (excluding VAT) subject to the recommendation of the Cabinet appointed procurement committee.
