Sri Lanka second in online search for ‘Sex’

In a recent survey conducted by a popular online search engine, Sri Lanka is ranked second as the nation that had most searched for the word ‘Sex’, while the East African nation Ethiopia is leading first in the survey.

Several Asian and African countries have followed in the survey after Sri Lanka, countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Vietnam, Pakistan, Myanmar, Zambia and Uruguay.

This is not the first time Sri Lanka has been leading in the list of online sex activities, last year it made it top five nations.

According to Google reports in 2012, cities in the Western Province, such as Colombo, Nugegoda and Homagama have searched for the word ‘sex’, while in 2020 the North Central Province ranks first.

Sex education in Sri Lanka is considered a stigma due to the cultural barriers and sexual interaction been repressed at large, which has led to this viewing online. In the recent past, the country has faced various incidents of child sex abuse and violence.
