Ajith Prasanna’s Contempt case trial from November 16

The case filed against retired Army Major and Attorney Ajith Prasanna remanded over contemptuous statements slandering to the judiciary was yesterday fixed for day-to-day trial by the Colombo High Court.

The case was taken up before the High Court Judge Dhammika Ganepola and he fixed the case to be heard on a day-to-day basis from November 16.

Prasanna was remanded following an inquiry over contemptuous statements made by him criticising Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulathunga regarding the judiciary at a press conference in respect of an ongoing court case filed against former Magistrate Thilina Gamage on January 12, 2020.

The Attorney General filed an indictment comprising two charges under Section 18 of the Judicature Act against attorney-at-law Ajith Prasanna over a contemptuous statement slandering to the judiciary.
