Annual Nikini pinkama series concludes

The annual sacred Lalata relics Nikini pinkama series came to an end on Wednesday night (2) with the participation of devotees at the Seruvila Mangala Raja Maha Viharaya in Trincomalee.

The 96th annual festival was organized under the instructions and the guidance of Chief Incumbent of the Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Munhene Meththarama Thera.

The Nikini Maha Perahera (procession) was confined only to traditional customs this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic as it was compulsory to follow the required health guidelines.

Durinmg the pinkama series, a pirith was chanted during a whole week and alms were offered to the Lalata relics enshrined in the Seruwavila Chaithya (Dagoba) and to the Ven. Maha Sangha.

On the last day of the pinkama series, Trincomalee district Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian Kapila Nuwan Athukorala and District Secretary J.S.D.M. Asanka Abeywardena participated in the event. The pirith chanting on the last day was done by the Ven. Theras attached to the Vilgamvehera Mahamewuna Meditation Centre.
