Central Expressway Kadawatha – Meerigama Section construction expedited

Highways Minister Johnston Fernando has expedited the construction of the Central Expressway’s Kadawatha – Meerigama Section which was delayed by the Good Governance Government.

Minister Fernando told the Daily News that instructions have been given to Ministry Secretary R.W.R. Premasiri to expedite the construction work related to the project, which covers a road distance of 37km. The minister said that the Central Expressway Project comes under four stages: from Kadawatha to Mirigama (37km), Mirigama to Kurunegala (39km), Pothuhera to Galagedara (32km), and Kurunegala to Dambulla (60km). The estimated cost of the project is Rs.158 billion, he added.

Minister Fernando also said that the construction work of the Kadawatha – Meerigama section would be completed within three years. He added that a basic advance of Rs.16.67 billion (15% percent of the estimated project cost), was provided to the contractor company on August 25.
