Lakshmi Victoria was re-elected President of the Sri Lanka Netball Association uncontested at the AGM held at the Sports Ministry Auditorium yesterday. This was the third time Lakshmi Victoria was elected for the top post.

Victoria who is also the Vice President of the Asian Netball Federation said we wanted to get Netball to a high standard with the support of all and also plan to change our Constitution on legal advice. We have a very young Sports Minister and hope to discuss with my officials to point out the progress of the sport and future plans to develop the game. I am happy the majority of the affiliated clubs supported me and my duty is to get their support to bring this sport to a higher level.

The Sports Minister already has spoken about the involvement of the youth for the sport and we already have plans to recruit youth players, coaches and referees we can't call all the players to Colombo but after one week's time we have an idea to meet our affiliated clubs at their places to promote their youth players. We have to recognize the talented players and give them proper guidance to go forward. I think my present administration team is very keen to do our job with transparency added the Netball Chief.

My personal view is one year period of administration is not enough for the Netball Federation it should be at least two years but all this have to be adjusted with Constitution . Especially we have a good team and represent most of the areas and I hope with the new constitutional changes more youth officials get a chance to come into administration added the Netball President.

We have our first International tournament Asian Indoor Games next March and already we are focusing on that. We have already started our National pool practices under the National coach Somitha de Alwis and Assistant coach P.D Prasadi. But still we have to do training under the medical regulations. However, we hope to increase the number of pool players by end of this year.

Meanwhile, Champa Gunawardrna was re-elected Secretary while Padmini Horanage was elected Treasurer respectively. The only contest was held for the Assistant Secretary post but Sumitra Wanasinghe was elected defeating Shayma Coorray with a clear lead. The 29 afflicted clubs were present for this AGM.
