Premier orders permanent buildings for Sinhala Encyclopaedia, Dictionary Offices

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the Director-General of the Urban Development Authority (UDA) to take steps to provide a permanent building for the Sinhala Encyclopaedia and Sinhala Dictionary offices.

He gave this instruction over the phone-call during his visit to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, yesterday. This was after Ministry Secretary Prof. Kapila Gunawardane explained to the Premier about the lack of appropriate office space for the Sinhala Encyclopedia and Dictionary staff on this occasion.

Prime Minister Rajapaksa also inquired into the progress of the renovation activities of the John de Silva Memorial Theater and instructed the ministry officials to obtain the support of the Army or the Navy for the second phase of the renovation.

Discussions were also held with ministry officials on the ‘National Art Festival 2020’, Ranminithenna Tele-Cinema Village, and the 19 new cultural centres.

State Minister of National Heritage, Performing Arts and Rural Arts Promotion, Vidura Wickramanayake, was also present on this occasion.
