Heroin racket: ‘Kimbula Ela Guna’, eight others arrested

The Sapugaskanda Police had arrested eight suspects in connection with a heroin racket operated by an underworld racketeer known as ‘Kimbula-ela Guna’ and his brother known as ‘Suresh’.

The police had arrested eight suspects from August 18 to date from various areas in and around Colombo and 70 grams of heroin, two swords, Rs. 20,000 in cash, two three wheelers and two motorcycles were also seized.

Police stated that this group had been smuggling drugs from India to Mannar and then transporting it to Colombo by train for distribution.

Investigations have revealed that the suspects had been operating the heroin racket in the Sapugaskanda, Wattala, Thotalanga and Mutwal areas.

Meanwhile, the Bambalapitiya Police Anti-Vice Squad had arrested three persons engaged in the distribution of Methamphetamine, also known as ICE. Police had seized 485 grams of ICE from their possession. The three suspects are residents of Colombo 12. Upon interrogating the suspects the police had discovered the main person behind this racket. Operations are underway to arrest this suspect.

Further, the Maligawatte Police had also arrested a close associate of Kanjipani Imran known as Mohommed Faiz Mohommed Faroos alias ‘Pichche Faiz’.

According to the Police, around 400 suspects were arrested during special police operations carried out within the Western Province between 6.00 a.m. on Sunday and 5.00 a.m. yesterday (31).
