Links with drug-traffickers Magistrate further remands 9 PNB officers

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathna yesterday further remanded till September 14 the nine Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officers who were charged with maintaining links with drug-peddlers.

Deputy Solicitor-General Dileepa Peiris, appearing on behalf of the Attorney-General, informed the Magistrate that Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials had recovered another two properties which belonged to the suspects. DSG Dileepa Peiris further told the court that CID had seized 23 properties belonged to the suspects.

The suspects were identified as Constable Batuwattage Ruwan Pushpakumara, Sergeant Saman Kumara Jayasinghe, Lionel Jayarathne, Warnakulasooriyage Udara Chathuranga, Sumedha Weerasinghe, Upali Rathnayake, Nirosh Madusanka de Silva, Ranasinghe Arachchige Don Shanil Appuhami, and Ruwan Alwis.

DSG Dileepa Peiris pleaded to issue an order directing the Credit Information Bureau to submit credit information reports pertaining to the suspect’s parents and relations. DSG Dileepa Peiris also stated that the suspects had mentioned on their statements that they purchased those properties through bank loans.
