Sand dunes fill Welipatanwila Fisheries Harbour

The Welipatanwila Fisheries Harbour in Ambalantota that was renovated at a cost of Rs. 3 billion remains blocked with sand dunes. Therefore, fisher folk in deep sea fishing now sail from Kirinda and Kudawell.

They said that the harbour was set up without considering their views. The mouth of the harbour now remains blocked with sand dunes. The fisher folk have been left high and dry because of the unusable harbour.

They urge the new Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister to take steps to renovate the harbour.
