Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake has informed Members of Parliament to attend the first sitting of the 9th Parliament on August 20 at 9.30 am.
The Secretary-General has made the invitation with a letter sent to the 223 Parliamentarians whose names have been Gazzeted by the Election Commission Chairman.
The appointment of the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker and the Deputy Chairperson of Committees in accordance with Standing Order No. 1 of Parliament and taking the official oath or affirmation of all new MPs will take place on the same day.
The official oath or affirmation will take place either in Sinhala, Tamil or English and the documents prepared in the respective language will be placed on the Chamber table.
The programme and the other details of the day will be displayed on the Parliament official website, the letter stated.
