According to NOCPOC, one of the patients is a staff member at the Kandakadu Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre and another is a detainee at the Senapura Rehabilitation Centre.Another three patients are returnees from India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
With the new cases, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka has increased to 2,839 with 291 active cases and 68 currently under observation in hospitals. With 13 new recoveries as at 6.00 am yesterday morning, total recoveries have increased to 2,537. The 13 recoveries include five from quarantine centres, while eight were returnees from abroad.
The number of COVID-19 patients reported from the Kandakadu cluster has increased to 604, with 483 detainees, 67 staff members, five invited staff members, 48 close contacts and one close contact of the Welikada Prison patient found positive for the virus.
Further, 25 Sri Lankans are expected to return during the day aboard special flights: eight from Doha and 17 from Chennai, India, are expected to return today.
NOCPOC said that all the returnees will be directed to quarantine centres controlled by the Tri-Forces, upon their arrival. A total of 1,937 are currently undergoing the quarantine process in 33 quarantine centres controlled by the Tri-Forces.
