HRCSL Chairman resigns

Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) Chairman Dr. Deepika Udagama tendered her resignation on Tuesday (3).

She had informed her decision to the final Constitutional Council meeting of Parliament and will be withdrawing from the post from next month.

Once Parliament resumes from August 20, the Constitutional Council will elect a new chairman, HRCSL sources said.

The Constitutional Council met on Tuesday for the last time under the chairmanship of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya at the Speaker’s official residence.

The Council has received applications for the posts in the Public Service Commission, Human Rights Commission and the Office of the Reparations and decided to further consider the nominations at the next meeting.
