About 1,044 persons have died in 944 road accidents in Sri Lanka during the past seven months. Moreover, 11 of the fatalities had been caused by accidents involving bus collisions, Kurunegala District Senior Education Director W.M. Balasooriya said.

He was speaking at a meeting of school principals, which was held yesterday at the Kurunegala District Education Office.

He added that these numbers have been confirmed by the Police Headquarters, and that steps have been taken to educate the public—especially schoolchildren—about road safety.
