Exercise your right for country’s betterment - Cardinal

Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith urged the masses to exercise their right to vote noting it was important to appoint Parliamentarians who are capable of taking the country forward in the next five years.

“The General Election which will be held on August 5 is a pivotal point in our country. It is the responsibility of the voters to elect Parliamentarians  who can work for the benefit of the people.” he said issuing a message.

Moreover he mentioned that the Parliament that will be elected after the August 5 elections will exist for five years and will be a key factor in making decisions on behalf of the country. Therefore, the citizens must be intuitive when electing candidates. “Undoubtedly this General Election will determine the future of our country,” he added.

Furthermore he urged the citizens to follow the guidelines given by the Election Commission, security officials and the Health authorities.

“I invite all to be law abiding citizens. The Election Commission and the Security officials are playing a major role to hold the election. The Health authorities are rendering a yeoman service to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

Therefore, it is our duty to exercise our rights for the betterment of the country.”

He also invited the public to promote a peaceful election and maintain safety.
