Kandy Esala Perahera ends today

The Kandy Esela festival will end today with the Water Cutting Ceremony, the Day Perahera and the presentation of the ‘Sannasa’ to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

According to the traditional customs, Custodian of the Sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa, Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela Bandara, along with the Basnayake Nilames of the four Maha Deyalayas and the Basnayake Nilames of other rural Devalayas will visit the President’s House in a procession.

Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela Bandara will present the ‘Sannasa’, the traditional communication of the successful conclusion of the Kandy Esala Perahera to the Head of State, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The Kap Planting ceremony of the Perahera festival took place at 2.26 a.m. on July 21. The Kumbal Perahera paraded the streets from July 25 to 29.

The first Randoli Perahera was held on July 30 and the final Randoli Perahera was held yesterday.

The Perahera this year was held adhering to the health guidelines to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
