The people are daily rallying round the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Pohottuwa party in large numbers while UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa are struggling to capture power at ‘Sirikotha’. It seems like neither Ranil nor Sajith is interested in securing power in Parliament, said Prime Minister and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He said that UNP and SJB party activists are worried about the ‘tug of war’ between their two leaders. This is why scores of UNP and SJB supporters are joining us to carry on the development work, ‘Vision of the Prosperity’ policy programme initiated by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The Prime Minister was addressing a SLPP propaganda meeting organized by the SLPP Kalutara district candidates and team leader Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Jagath Angage, Jayantha Samaraweera and Mahinda Samarasinghe held at White Heaven Hotel in Panadura recently.

Premier Rajapaksa added that a SLPP victory at the upcoming General Election is a foregone conclusion, because the vast majority of people will vote for SLPP.
“We need a two-thirds majority to introduce Constitutional amendments and that’s why we request you to vote for the Pohottuwa party because, we should have a stable and strong Parliament. At the same time, I do say that voting for the SJB or the UNP is really pointless and useless because neither the UNP nor the SJB will come to power and none of these parties will ever be able to form a strong and stable Government,” the Prime Minister said.
“The people will never forget as to what happened to the country during the prebious ‘Yahapaalana regime’ when the incumbent President and the Prime Minister were from two different parties and were constantly at loggerheads. The country faced a serious crisis as a result with the development projects suffering a severe setback. The people will not want a repeat of this situation,” the Prime Minister added.
Former State Minister and SLPP candidate Jayantha Samaraweera requested the people to vote for the Pohottuwa if the country is to achieve real progress and prosperity.
Samaraweera urged the people of Panadura to support a very honest and hardworking politician like Jagath Angage.
SLPP Chairman Prof. G.L.Peiris pointed out the dire necessity of having a strong Parliament in the country as all the financial allocations and legislations are decided by Parliament.
He very clearly emphasised the adverse situation the country would have to face, if the elected President and Prime Minister hail from two different political parties. Prof. Peiris recollected the dilemma that the country faced when the Yahapaalana Government was in power.
